John William Merl Nelson was born in Case (Cass) county, Mo., June 1st, 1898. and died in Geneseo, Kansas, December 10, 1918, aged 20 years, 6 months, and 9 days. At the age of tweleve (Twelve) years he came with his parents to Kansas and has lived in this community ever since. He was an industrious youth and never shirked from the hard tasks of life which seemed to be his lot and never complained about his own burden being heavy if he could make a burden lighter for those whom he loved and cared for. He was a friend to a friend in need and to such his last dime would be freely given. He was kind and obedient to his mother a noble trait in any young man and was ever ready to sacrifice his all for mother and home. There remained to his death his mother and father, sisters and brothers and many friends. A brief service was held at the home and cemetery conducted by Rev. A. M. Byers last Thursday morning and his body laid to rest to wait the summons of the morning of God's Great and Eternal Day.
