Rondle Lee Nelson (retired Lieutenant Colonel), 67, of Georgetown, TX, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010. Visitation was held on Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, Georgetown. A Rosary/Prayer Service was recited at 5:30PM. A Memorial Mass was held on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 11:00AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Cornhill, TX. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC.

Ron was born July 25, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana, to the late James Rondle and Eleanor Ziliak Nelson. Ron was raised in Evansville; he then attended the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelors Degree. He went on to achieve his Masters Degree from Southern Illinois University.

Ron joined the United States Army in 1966 and served our country honorably for over 22 years. Ron married Sandra Ann Walsh on July 27, 1968 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They traveled around the world during his Army career, and then lived in Southern California for 17 years where he worked as a Program Manager for Jet Propulsion Laboratory, before retiring to Georgetown about 4 years ago. Ron was an avid model train collector and assembler. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and fishing with his son and grandsons. Ron loved his Harley Davidson and was a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders for the past three years.

Ron leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 40 years, Sandi Nelson of Georgetown; his children, Stephanie Harshman and her husband Max of Redmond, WA, Allyson Nelson and her husband Shane O'Brien of Redmond, WA, Jonathan Nelson and his wife Katherine of Sacramento, CA; his sister, Patricia Oliver and her husband Robert Michael of Evansville, IN; his four grandchildren, Justin Harshman, Bryson Harshman, Ellie Nelson, Aaron Nelson; his nephew Brent Oliver and his wife Kristen and their family; along with other loving family members and a host of loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Personal words of comfort may be sent to the family online at www.gabrielsfuneral.com.
