Shirley E. BROWN, Jr., 73, 1110 Jefferson St., died 3:35 a.m. Thursday at Life Care Center of Rochester.
Born in Hartford City to Shirley E., Sr., and Ethel BANTER BROWN, he married Gloria A. ANDRE on June 28, 1947 in Hartford City. She survives.
Mr. Brown founded and was president of Rochester Glass Company in 1956. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph Catholic Church, all of Rochester. He was long time president and founding director and team manager of the Rochester Little League and Babe Ruth League, won many championships and umpired many games. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheri C. MEISER and Debbie A. GOTTSCHALK, both of Rochester; three sons, Kevin A. BROWN, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Greg D. and wife Karen BROWN and Chris S. and wife Dee BROWN, both of Rochester; 10 grandchildren, Matt [MEISER], Michael [MEISER] and Amy MEISER, Allie [GOTTSCHALK] and Zac GOTTSCHALK, Casey [BROWN], Nicolas [BROWN], Marcus [BROWN] and Levi BROWN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Maxine WAGNER.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rochester with Rev. John ZAHN officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Rochester American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Sunday with 8 p.m. vigil services at the Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester. Memorials may be made to Rochester Youth Baseball League.
