Philip Hale Chilton was born January 13, 1854, in Morristown, Hamblen County, Tennessee, to William Richard Chilton and Elizabeth Keith Scruggs. There was no physical description of Philip. He was married to Sophronia Ellen Wright on July 2,1894 in Texas. They had two children, Catherine D and Philip H. Philip was a doctor in Alpine, Bewster County, Texas. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a SPECIAL RANGER on February 4, 1918 thru January 14, 1919. He was a Texas quarentine officer at Terlingua, Brewster County. He had been a physician in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas. In the years of 1879 and 1880, Philip had served in the Texas Frontier Batallion in Co. B. and Co. C. This was during the Indian Wars. After he died his wife, Sophronia, recieved a monthly pension. Philip Hale Chilton died January 19, 1929, in Falfuria, Jim Wells County, Texas. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche, Texas.
