George Travis Bailey, Sr.

Church Point, La. George Travis Bailey, Sr., 85, passed away October 1, 2010 at Canon Hospice, Jefferson, La. He was born October 28, 1924 at Haynesville, La. and would later make his home in Arkansas, Texas and Marrero, La. before settling in Church Point, La., where he resided for the past 30 years. In 1942, George enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a Flight Officer during WWII, and later served in the Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War. He was employed in the oil industry for many years before retiring from Chevron. A 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner; he was a member of and Past Worshipful Master of Humble Cottage Masonic Lodge #19, Opelousas, La., member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Valley of New Orleans, La., member of the Jerusalem Shriners of Destrehan, La. and member of the American Legion Post 225, Church Point, La.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, George T. Bailey, Jr. and Ada of Gretna, Drew P. Bailey and Jamie of Titusville, Fl. and James R. "Rodney" Bailey and Irene of Marrero and one daughter and son-in-law, Karen B. Thibodeaux and Gene of Church Point. Paw-Paw George is sadly missed by 10 grandchildren, Ricky Bailey of Marrero, Melissa deReyna of Picayune, Ms., Tammy Breaux of Marrero, Rodney Bailey of Marrero, Shannan Kornbrek of Titusville, Fl., Meagan Burke of New Orleans, Lindsey Daigle of Branch, La., Gene, Lauren, and Amanda Thibodeaux of Church Point, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Elsie JoAnn Womack, a daughter, Brenda Lucille Bailey, brother, Thomas C. "Bob" Bailey, parents, Drew Steely, Jr. and Viola Howell Bailey, father-in-law, James Frank Womack and mother-in-law, Elsie Lindsey Womack. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Guidry Funeral Home, with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the end of the service. Graveside services will be at 12:30 P.M. Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Holly Springs Cemetery, Fouke, Ar.
