William married Velma Arletta TUCKER on 03 Apr 1943 in Gainesville TX and they had two children: William Alton Jr and Martha Victoria. He retired from the US Air Force in 1963, which included service in Germany during WWII.

Funeral services were conducted at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 8801 Mansfield Road for Mr. William A. Rowell, 67, of Shreveport, at 11 a.m. Saturday May 10. The Rev. Vernon Liddle, pastor of Southern Hills Free Methodist Church, officiated. Interment was at Centuries Memorial Park.
Mr. Rowell entered into rest Thursday, May 8, 1986, at Guest House Nursing Home.
He was a retired U.S. Air Fore Master Sergeant and had been a resident of Shreveport since 1963.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Rowell of Shreveport; a son and daughter-in-law, William A. Rowell, Jr. and Betty Rowell of Eunice, La.; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Curry and J.P. Curry of Arcadia, La.; a sister, Clyvon Finklea of Sibley, La.; four brothers, Bennie, Rowell of Jamestown, La., Floyd Rowell of Homer, La., R.J. Rowell of Shreveport and Dozzell of Ringgold, La.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Curry, Adena and Morgan Rowell.
Pallbearers: Robbie Mitchell, Raymond May, Winifred Shields, Jack Festavan, Jimmy Holt, Keith Rowell.
