John Grant Steven left Scotland sometime between the birth of his daughter in 1886 in Scotland and 1891 when his son was born in Kimberley, SA. He was employed by the DeBeers Consolidated Mining Company in Johannesburg, South Africa as a Mechanic and Boilermaker. In August of 1892 he left to go to the Kimberley Mine." He died in 1899 at the Primrose Hospital in Boksburg, however his remains are interred in the Western Cemetery, Arbroath, Scotland.
