Evelyn M. Callanan, 88, Clear Lake, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Hampton Health Care Center Alzheimers Unit #2, the Alzheimer's Association or Zion Lutheran Church.

Evelyn Mathia was born Oct. 27, 1919 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Nels and Clara Marie (Elstad) Kittleson. She graduated from Mason City High School. Evelyn married Robert Callanan on Oct. 27, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City. They had three children, Patricia, Dennis and David. She worked for a few years at Clear Lake Bakery and J.C. Penney.

Evelyn enjoyed playing bridge, reading and loved sharing in the lives of her children's families. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Progress Club, Altar Guild at Zion and the Prayer Chain. She enjoyed her wonderful friendships shared in Mason City where they lived until 1957, at Alliant Energy, in Clear Lake and at Magic Valley Trailer Park in Weslaco, Texas where she and husband, Bob, wintered.

Evelyn is survived by her (omitted for privacy).

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert on Feb. 21, 2005; infant brother, Germaine; brother, Nels Kittleson; sisters, Carrie D. Johnson and Lorraine Kingsbury, all of Mason City.
