SPRINGDALE - Johnie Cooper Claypool, 74, of Springdale died Jan. 29, 2002, at Springdale. He was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Springdale to John and Bertha Kirk Claypool. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the National Guard in Fayetteville. He was a Baptist and was retired from Crane in Rogers. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and riding horses. He was a member of Kings River Riding Club, Northwest Arkansas Gaited Horse Riding Club, the Tennessee Walking Horse Association and the Missouri Fox Trotting Association.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Claypool of the home, to whom he was married Feb. 6, 1951; two sons, John George Claypool of Springdale and Steve Claypool of Fort Smith; three daughters, Joyce Ford of Kansas City, Mo., Diana Lynch Smith and Teresa Falk, both of Springdale; one brother, Thurman Claypool of Springdale; three sisters, Mary Smith of Springdale, Betty Logue of Ojai, Calif., and Peggy Gage of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchidren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with the Rev. Steve Claypool and the Rev. J.W. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Blaschke, Jeremy Claypool, Brian Ford, Robert Ford, Brad Falk and Jerry Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Laura Ford, Sara Blaschke, Heather Claypool, John George Claypool and Everett Shockley.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 610 E. Emma Ave., Springdale,72764.
