Jim was born to the late James E. and Laura Ethel McClain Eaves in Pampa, Gray County, TX. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Longview where Jim grew up and graduated in 1948.

Jim started his coaching career in Texarkana and from there to Gainsville High School, Denton, Odessa, Mesquite and finally Tyler. Jim retired in 1987.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lela Mae Chism Eaves; daughters, Laura Nan Eaves (Travis) Bailey of Dallas, Colleen Marie Mundle Talkington (Jim) Ruppert of Plainfield, Illinois; son, James Maco Eaves of Tyler; 3 granddaughters, Genie Lynn Talkington of Macoma, IL and her twin, Ginger Elizabeth Talkington of Plainfield, IL, Tara Leigh Talkington of California; and a host of friends.

Preceding Jim in death was a grandson; twin of Tara, Tyler James Talkington in Aug of 1985.
