Highly Respected Lady Passes Away
After a Long Illness
Mrs. Eliza Manion, wife of Martin Manion, an old and highly respected citizen of the country just west of town, died last Thursday morning about four o'clock, after a long illness from dropsy and later gangrene. She has been a sufferer from dropsy for a long time and several weeks ago was removed to the Graham hospital for treatment. She was much benefited by the treatment for dropsy but gangrene set in and a few days after being brought to her home west of town, she died.
Eliza Frost was born in Licking county, Ohio May 27, 1844 and came with her parents to Illinois when quite small, settling in Fulton county, where she grew to womanhood.
August 5, 1868, she was married to Martin Manion, at Lewistown and they lived the first two years of their married life near Bryant. They moved to the farm northwest of Cuba where they have ever since resided.
Eight children were born to them, six of whom are living. They are: Mrs. John Churchill, James Manion, Mrs. Will Evans, Mrs. Orvil Huff, Mrs. Fannie McAdams, Charles Manion. Two sons are dead, Will, who died in 1908 and George who died about two years ago.
The funeral services were held at the house Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. I. T. Haverfield, pastor of the Methodist Protestant church, assisted by a quartette composed of Ernest Thompson, Alfred Leyshon, Lucy Stevens, and Clara Payne. Burial was in Cuba cemetery.
