The Rev. William A. McNulty, a former associate pastor at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Hartford and St. Mary's Church in Griswold, died Monday in Greenville, N.C. He was 62.
McNulty, a priest with the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, served the Hartford parish from 1975 to 1976. He was the first La Salette pastor named to St. Mary's, where he had served from 1976 to 1985 in the Jewett City section of Griswold.
He was also the first La Salette pastor at Mother of Mercy parish in Washington, N.C., where he served since 1986.
He was a history professor at a seminary on New Park Avenue in Hartford from 1955 to 1960.
McNulty also was associate pastor at Our Lady of La Salette in Rainham, England, from 1963 to 1969.
Born in Olyphant, Pa., McNulty entered La Salette Novitiate, Bloomfield, in 1948 and was ordained in 1955. He studied for the priesthood at La Salette Seminary in Ipswich, Mass., and received his master's degree in history from Boston College in 1957. He also pursued advanced studies at Oxford University in England.
McNulty leaves a sister, Dorothy McNulty of Archibald, Pa.; and many cousins, including the Rev. Clarence P. Wheeler, M.S., of Jefferson City, Mo.
The Most Rev. F. Joseph Gossman, D.D., bishop of Raleigh, will be the principal celebrant at a funeral Mass at 6 p.m. Thursday at Mother of Mercy Church, Washington, N.C. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, Olyphant, Pa., on Saturday, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Olyphant, Pa.
