Mrs. Wm. Kirchhoff
Mrs. Wm. Kirchhoff, the former Maria Busse, who had been a resident of Elk Grove township all of her life, and for the past 26 years a resident of Mt. Prospect, passed away on February 17 at her home.
Mrs. Kirchhoff was born on October 17, 1858 and was probably among the oldest residents of this territory and has seen the many changes take place as the farms gradually gave way to villages.
May 1, 1881 she was united in marriage to William Kirchhoff. After their marriage this couple made their home on the Kirchhoff homestead in Elk Grove where they have lived until 27 years ago when they moved to Mt. Prospect where they have made their home since. Mr. Kirchhoff preceded his wife in death on August 28, 1943.
Her husband, Wm. Kirchhoff, a Mt. Prospect pioneer school director and public official who served the district in many capacities, passed away just six months ago at the age of 82.
About three years ago, Mrs. Kirchhoff fell, suffering a hip injury, and since that time has been bed-ridden. She is survived by a large family. Eight children, four sons and four daughters were born to her. One son passed away in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Henry Freise, passed away at the age of 37. Her three sons, Louis William and George, are all farmers on Central road, Mt. Prospect. Her daughters are Mrs. Sophia Zersen, Itasca, Mrs. Louis Freise, Palatine and Mrs. Laura Stier, Mt. Prospect. There are 25 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 29 at St. Paul Lutheran church, with Rev. Mueller officiating. Interment took place at Mt. Prospect Lutheran cemetery.
