Jean Darel Burns, 82, retired Engineer, passed away in Tulsa Nov. 10, 2010. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Roberta "Doris" Garrett, both retired in the Panama Canal Zone. They married June 23, 1950 in Bixby. He is also survived by his son; Scott Burns and daughter Laura Redemann and husband Mike, 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth & Cheyenne Redemann and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Ethel Driscoll Burns & Charles Lee Burns, uncles Frank Burns & Earl Driscoll and aunts Cricket Burns Driscoll, Edith Burns Bennett Sloan, Grace Burns Fletcher, Lena Burns Workman Tinsley and Rachel Burns Devine. He was born Mar. 6, 1928 north of Lagrange, Goshen County, WY. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1951 with an Electrical Engineering degree. From that time, he and his wife lived and worked in Wichita, KS; Seattle, WA; Altus, OK; Tulsa; Karachi, Pakistan; Izmir, Turkey; Munich, Germany; Livorno, Italy; Sierra Vista, AZ; and Balboa Heights, Canal Zone and returned to Tulsa in 1983 where they have remained. He worked for Boeing, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Panama Canal Co. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, a member of the Red Fork Lodge 505, Akdar Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters and Elks Lodge 946. He will always be known by his family and many of the people in and from the Canal Zone and Panama for his portrayal of Santa for 30 years. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 12 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Leonard & Marker Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 am Saturday at Riverview Baptist Church with interment following in the Bixby Cemetery. Services by Leonard & Marker Funeral Home of Bixby.
