Records show he enlisted in the Cobb Regiment as a private in the 22nd Battalion, Georgia Heavy Artillery. He was captured on March 7, 1865 and records show he was released on June 11,1865. The Confederate cemetery holds graves of more than 12,000, however only 3800 are accounted for.
It was found after the war that many soldiers that were listed as released were actually dead.
James did not come back from war and this was his last known location and was presumed dead at the time.
