William P. Groom of Glen Hope, who died at the Clearfield Memorial Hospital Saturday evening, December 14th, was born near Glen Hope on November 28, 1855, a son of George and Catherine Arms Groom, both natives of Lancaster County. When Mr. Groom was 12 years old, his family returned to Lancaster County to make their home. After he reached his eighteenth birthday, Mr. Groom returned to Clearfield County every year to enjoy the hunting in the vicinity of Glen Hope, then a heavily timbered section. About 1880 he returned to this County to make his permanent residence, leaving his parents in Lancaster County. He was a carpenter by trade and was well known in the Glen Hope section of the County by his work in that line. On June 30, 1887, he married Luella Tubbs of Glen Richey, who survives him with one daughter, Mrs. Clarence R. Kramer of Clearfield. He was the last member of his own family, but has a number of nieces and nephews living in Lancaster County. Mr. Groom was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. The body was taken to the home of his daughter here and on Monday evening was removed to his late home in Glen Hope. Funeral services were held there yesterday afternoon and the body was interred in Glen Hope Cemetery.
