Dr. Joseph Meade White, age 78, retired Montgomery County Surgeon. He served in the US Army Medical Corps during the Spanish-American War and World War I (Retired as a Major)
Dr. White died at his home in Poolesville of a heart attack.
Dr. White who was born in Leesburg, VA, and spent the latter part of his career as an Army surgeon, was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and, in 1897, from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore (now, the Univ. of Maryland Medical School).
He immediately entered the Spanish-American War, and served as a surgeon in the Medical Corps. After his discharge, he began his civilian medical career, practicing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Later he became established in Montgomery County, and remained there until the outbreak of World War I, when he again joined the service.
Serving overseas as a surgeon in the 99th Infantry Division, he continued his profession in the Army until 1935, and retired with the rank of Major.
He had lived in retirement since 1935, spending the last 5 years of his life in Poolesville.
Funeral services were held in his home in Poolesville on Sunday. Burial was in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
