An early pioneer of Minnesota. Brevet Brigadier General during the Amercan Civil War. Served as Chief Quartermaster for the XI and XX Corps. U.S. Comissioner of Agriculture under President Rutherford B. Hayes. The William G.LeDuc House in Hastings,Minnesota is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is an unusually complete example of the Carpenters Gothic style of Andrew Jackson Dowing, a pioneer in American landscape architecture.

William Gates LeDuc was born Mar 29, 1823, Ohio, died Oct 30, 1917, age 94, pneumonia, buried Lakeside Cemetery. Returned to Ohio and mustered in as Captain in Quartermaster corps on Apr 18, 1862.
