Became a recluse early in life. Etta and her oldest child, Dorothy (who was mildly retarded), never left the house or the yard after Dorothy was about 6 years old.
Although, Etta never left the house or the property. Once a telephone was installed in the house, Daddy said she, "burned up the telephone wires calling everyone."
Late one night when I was about 10 or so, Dr. Joe Boyd Williams was called to Granny's house. Mama later said, they believed Granny had some sort of nervous breakdown. At the time it was simply referred to as "the change" I wonder if this is where the family "depression" comes from. I've had it all my life. Bonnie
Granny's daughter, Johnetta Sisson Wilhite Bell also had problems. She believed it was Social Anxiety Disorder.
Granny crocheted. I have many UFO (unfinished objects) that were stored away in her trunk.
