Fred was a twin to Frank Walsh.

Fred graduated from Megargel High School in 1933. Moved to Archer City in 1940. In 1944 he and twin brother Frank purchased Walsh Brothers Service Station at the intersection of HWY 79 & 25 in Archer City, Texas. They owned and operated the station for over fifty years, until he retired in 1994. The station was the gathering place for the local "Spit and Whittle Club" for many years.

He was an avid supporter of sports in Archer City, and was recognized as "An Outstanding Older Texan" in 1978. He received an award from the Archer Livestock Association for thirty five years service to the Annual American Legion Rodeo Dance. As a resident of the Archer City Nursing Center, he was selected by the staff as the "Sun Shine" representative for the home's advertisement brochures due to his pleasant personality and constant smile.

The family requested that memorials be made to the Walsh Brothers Park Project.
