Uriah Hand Cresse was the son of Anthony and Judith Hand Cresse. He first married Mary Shaw on 7 Jun 1827, who was born in 1805. They had three children Mary 1828, Experience 1839 and Uriah H. 1831-1833. According to Samuel Ware's account book Uriah purchased a coffin for Mary on 7 Sept 1831 and paid 10.00. After Mary died Uriah second married Mary Buck 13 Nov 1832 born in 14 Jan 1807 and died in 1890. They had 8 children: Francis 1833, Uriah II 1835, Falsette 1837, Tabitha 1839, Daniel 1843, George 1841, Johnathan S. 1848 and Elizabeth 1845. Anthony Cresse build a log house which Uriah replace later with local stone in 1826. This house still stands on Cresse Lane in Erma, NJ. It is called the Hand-Cresse House. Uriah died from kidney disease.
