Dorothy was born in Boothton, Alabama on March 28, 1919, and lived in Columbiana growing up and in high school, but lived in Tuscaloosa most of her adult life. She attended Montevallo College and was a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church. She worked for State Farm Insurance for over 30 years and was a member of the Women's Business Club. She was also a member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Allie Miller, her husband, Thomas Herring, and her brothers, Hugh and Richard Miller (Mary Jo Miller).
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Minor (Lonnie); her grandchildren, Jennifer Minor-Springer (Russ), Shanan Barthold, and Breck Minor (Traci Fassina); her great-grandchildren, Carson Springer, Morgan Springer, Noah Barthold, and Isaiah Barthold; her nieces and nephews, Steve Miller, Tinney Miles (Wayne), Dino Stephens, Rusty Miller (Vi), and Hugh Miller (Janice); her sister-in-law, Mary Miller; and her great-nieces and nephews. Her special friends were Judy Nisbet Caldwell, Jean Nisbet Cates, and Jim Nisbet.
