HAROLD E. ARMSTRONG of Richford
Harold E. Armstrong, 72, passed away on January 29, 2001 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home following a period of declining health. Born on November 15, 1928 in Newark Valley, he was a son of the late William and Olive V. (Shauger) Armstrong. He was predeceased by his wife Helen; brothers Porter and William (Jack) Armstrong; sisters, Ruby VanSusan and Mary Hyde and Pauline Armstrong; grandson David LaMontain. He is survived by his daughters Patricia LaMontain, Dryden, Shirley Mincher, Waverly; son Howard Butch (Marlene) Armstrong, Tex.; brothers, Charles (Charlotte), Allen and Howard (Ruth) Armstrong; sisters, Hazel (Larry) VanSusan, Ethel Smith, Phyllis (Victor) Alexander; grandchildren, Scott, Craig, Michael, Stephen and great-granddaughter Cierra; Several nieces and nephews also survived. Harold was a former Highway Superintendent for the town of Richford and a retired school bus operator for the Newark Valley School System. He was a member and past president of the Richford Senior Citizens, enjoyed membership in the Berkshire Senior Citizens, was a member of the former Newark Valley Grange, Richford IOOF and enjoyed volunteering especially for the United Way and dinners at the Richford Community Hall. Harold's family will receive their friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley. Funeral services will follow there at 2 p.m. with Rev. Daniel J. Martin, Pastor of the Berkshire United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire. Friends wishing, may kindly consider contributions to the Activity Fund of Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Fifth Ave., Owego, N.Y. 13827 in loving memory of Harold E. Armstrong.
