Joseph Benjamin "Buddy" Grierson, age 71, died at his home on Monday, the 8th of November 2010. A native and lifelong resident of Houston, Texas, he was born in the Baptist Memorial Hospital to William and Lucy Etta Mills Grierson on the 11th of October 1939. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1957; and went on to receive a B. Sl. In Chemical Engineering, Magnum Cum Laude, from the University of Houston in 1961. His childhood nickname of "Buddy" became his moniker for his entire life.

Following his university graduation, he was employed as a Chemical Engineer for Monsanto Chemical Company in Texas City, Texas prior to joining International Business Machines in a technical capacity dealing with computer software. He left IBM after several years to form a software company with partners in Associated Computer Services. After that company became a publicly traded corporation and was bought by SEACO, he became a founding partner and President of Systems Applications engineering (SAE) until his retirement. He continued to do consulting work until 2009. His life in its entirety was characterized by dedication, devotion, duty and integrity. He exhibited a boundless generosity, always with humility.

"Buddy" is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vickie Schaffer Grierson; his son, Mark Allen Grierson and wife, Debra; daughter, Denise Grierson Shriver; and son, David Paul Grierson; five loving grandchildren survive him; Emily and Lucy Grace Grierson; Desiree, Ashley and Brittany Justin. He is also survived by three sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 11th of November, in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 12th of November, at The Church of St. John The Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Douglas Richnow, Senior Associate Rector, is to officiate

Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment service at Memorial Oaks cemetery.
