Martin 'Wally' W. Gavin

Martin "Wally" Wallace Gavin, born March 26, 1916, died peacefully Oct. 13, 2003. Beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survived by loving wife, Helen; brother Don (Rosemary); children Kathleen (Jon) Walsh, Maureen, John (Anne), Mark (Renee), Laura (Rick) Leyk and Matthew Gavin; stepsons Steve (Lexy), Greg and Terry Barrows and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by wife, Lauretta Flynn Gavin, daughter Sister Loretta OSB, sister Virginia Bland, and brothers Bob and Dick. Wally was born in St. Paul, graduated from Central High School in St. Paul. Raised his family in Brainerd and retired there after 35 years in the insurance business. Awards for community service for Dial-A-Ride Bus Service and Meals-on-Wheels. Handsome, charming and witty, Wally's verses, songs, puns and loving letters will be treasured always. Special thanks to wonderful staff at St. Otto's, Little Falls.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Father Bill Skarich officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
