MRS. SARAH E. DeLAY
Mrs. Sarah E. DeLay, widow of Nathan DeLay, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Johnson, in Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday, April 14, 1915, after an illness of but three days with paralysis, although she had been in ill health for several years.
The remains were brought to Chariton on Friday morning and the same evening at six o'clock, were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery, a brief service being conducted at the grave by Rev. E. E. Ilgenfritz, of the M. E. church.
Sarah E. Hixson was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 1840. When but twelve years of age she came with her parents, Rev. Matthew and Rebecca Hixson, to Iowa.
She was married at Centerville, Iowa, on Sept. 28, 1859, to Nathan B. DeLay, who died on March 17, 1903. For the past five years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. May Johnson, in Kansas City.
She is also survived by two other daughters and a son, Mrs. Lottie Shultz, of Kansas City, and Eunice and Joseph DeLay, both of St. Joseph, Mo.
Deceased resided in Chariton for many years, leaving here about nine years ago. She was highly regarded by a host of friends here who will learn of her demise with regret and who will extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing children.
