SUNNYVALE, TX - Ursula Christine "Chris" Kasselman, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at home surrounded by family following a lengthy illness on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010. Born April 13, 1925 in Koningsberg, East Prussia, she was a German war refugee who survived bombing attacks and other wartime terrors as she and her mother fled hundreds of miles from invading Russian troops to safety in southern Germany at the height of WWII. Two years later she met and married U.S. Air Force Lt. Donald Kasselman, who was part of the allied occupational forces at the end of the war. They were married Oct. 22nd 1949 in Denklingen, Germany. Following Don's 30 years of military service, Chris and Don settled in Shreveport in 1973. Chris joined the design staff of Dunn's Furniture and later formed her own company, Chris Kasselman Interior Design. For nearly twenty years, her tireless dedication and endless enthusiasm for her work transformed many of her clients into close and valued friends. Chris was a woman of great faith. As a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, she actively participated in the Deborah Sunday School Class and served on the intercessory prayer team. Her love for God and people was reflected in everything she did and served as an example to all who knew her, and her unshakable faith in God led each of her family members to accept Christ for themselves. After 33 years in Shreveport, her advancing illness forced a move to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in 2007, where she resided until her death. Chris was preceded in death by her parents in Germany and her sister, Irmgard Lucas. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Col. (USAF Ret.) Donald Kasselman of Sunnyvale, Texas; son LTC (USA Ret.) Michael Kasselman and wife Deborah of Valrico, FL; daughter Patti Kasselman of Bedford, TX and son Major, USAFR Terry Kasselman of Dallas. She also leaves nine cherished grandchildren, and a great-grandson. The family extends special gratitude to our beloved sister in Christ, Shayne Prater Kasselman, who has acted as Chris' primary caregiver for the past four years, surrounding her with boundless love and devotion. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale, TX. Funeral services will be held at the same location Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m., with interment in Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
