Duncan LeCompte, of Shelbyville, KY died at his home on June 4, 2010 at the age of 80.


He was a member of the last graduating class of Cropper High School in 1949. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War; a member and deacon of Cropper Baptist Church and served as moderator for 34 years. He was a farmer in his previous years and was very active in the Dairy Industry serving as manager of the dairy production-testing program in the Seven Counties Area. He served as director and vice president of Milk Marketing Inc., as well as director of the National United Dairy Industry Assoc., The National Milk Producers Federation; Mid-East United Dairy Industry Assoc. and the American Dairy Association of Kentucky. He was named Master Conservationist in 1977. He also served as supervisor for the Shelbyville Tobacco Board of Trade and worked as a Real Estate agent for 15 years. He was a member of the Salt River Antique Power Association Tractor Club. He was a director and served as president of the North Shelby Water Company.


He is preceded in death by: parents, Robert Lee and Bertha Kyle LeCompte; brother, Donald LeCompte; sister, Blanche Flack.


He is survived by: wife of 53 years, Jane Parke LeCompte; son, Scott LeCompte; daughter, Lisa LeCompte, Louisville, KY and granddaughter, Natalie Jane LeCompte; four sisters, Bessie Graybeal, Shelbyville, Madelyn Stivers, Richmond, KY, Helen Locklear, Dayton, Ohio and Betty (Gayle) Douglas of Henry Co., KY; three brothers, Gene (Evelyn) LeCompte, Eminence, KY, James (Doris) LeCompte, Shelbyville, and Jerry (Christine) LeCompte, Eminence, KY.


Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 9, 2010 at Shannon Funeral Home with Rev. James Cavender and Rev. Herbert Slaughter officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.


Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. on Tuesday June 8, 2010 at the funeral home.
