The Rockdale Reporter and Messenger (Rockdale, Tex), Vol 45, No. 34, Ed.
Thursday, October 25. 1917

Following the announcement in Thursday's Reporter that Mrs. P. York was critically ill from paralysis at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Sid Hudson in Dallas, came telegrams to relatives and friends in this city Saturday morning that conveyed this intelligence: "Mother York died at 10 p.m. Will be buried in Dallas."
Deceased was a woman, good and true, whose passing will be regretted by all who knew her; a woman universally beloved for her many lovable traits of character and beautiful home associations. All of Rockdale will sympathize with the family in this their most poignant grief.
Mr. and Mrs. York came to Rockdale from Alabama when this was the only railroad village in the county. They contributed much of their energies and means to things worth while and to solid investments that materially assisted in laying the foundation of the prosperous little city of today.
On sites of their former properties stand some of the most substantial and prominent homes in Rockdale.
When widowed Mrs. York and a little daughter, Jennie Lynne, made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Hudson, where the warmth of her cheery presence and placid helpful outlook upon life encouraged and radiated happiness on all who shared in the lavish hospitality of this artistic home.
Several years ago for health reasons, the family resided in San Angelo, recently moving to Dallas, where Mr. Hudson is established in business, and purchased a palatial home on 3715 Gillon Avenue, where the same gentle care and regard was bestowed upon her.
In spite of her more than three-score-and-ten, she was very companionable. She loved the great out-of-doors; if there were an automobile drive, a fishing trip or a spend-the-day party "Mother York" was always the most enthusiastic participant. Such was her life up to the night she was stricken with the second attack, she having seemingly recovered from the paralytic stroke received some two years ago, and retired in the best of spirits. She was ripe for Heaven, knowing nothing but goodness, love and mercy all her life;
"So peacefully falling, so gently returning
To Mother Earth's bosom with nothing of strife.
In glory the living, twice glory the parting,
Grand glory the ending; a well-spent life"
