A marriage partnership that lasted more than 81 years and was noted with world-wide publicity a little over a year ago ended Monday evening when Ole M. Sholberg died at his home at 702 West linden in Fergus Falls. Death came at 9:25, just 17 days after he passed his 105th birthday.
Ole Sholberg was born in Norway June 16, 1862, and came to the United States with has parents when he was 13 years old. The family settled in Sverdrup Township on a homestead, and it was while he was living there that he met Otilia Hill on a nearby farm. The couple was married in the Hill farm home Jan. 5, 1886 and settled in Orwell Township, where they lived until retiring and moving to Fergus Falls in 1941.
Survivors, besides his wife, who is 103, include six daughters and two sons. They are Julius Sholberg, Underwood; Clara, who resides in the Sholberg home in Fergus Falls; Mrs. Minde Meder, Underwod; Lillie, Mrs. Ralph Bodeen, Aledo, I11.; Mrs. Selma Leen, Hopkins, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Ordal, Mabel, Mrs. Martin Hanson, and Oscar,, all of Fergus Falls. Their first child, John, died in infancy.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Rev. Otto Dale officiating.
Burial will be in the Sverdrup Lutheran Cemetery north of Underwood.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Olson Funeral Home.
