As a girl, she traveled with her parents to postings in India, living there for two years. She was decorated with the Imperial Order of the Crown of India. In 1911, when the Duke was appointed Governor General of Canada, she accompanied her parents to Canada, where she was extremely popular. In February 1918, she was named Colonel-in-Chief of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. A year later, she married one of her father's aides de camp, The Hon. She voluntarily relinquished the style of Royal Highness and the title of Princess of Great Britain and Ireland and assumed the style of Lady Patricia Ramsay. The couple had one son. She was invested as a Dame Grand Cross, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in 1934. An accomplished watercolor artist, she had had three one-woman shows during her career and left more than 600 paintings.
