Queen Marie was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert of the United Kingdom. The daughter of King Ferdinand I of Romania & Princess Marie of Great Britain & Ireland, Queen Marija Karadjordjevic was educated at the Romanian oryal palace. She spoke Romanian, English, French, German & Serbian. Her Majesty was occupied with science, physics & chemistry as well as being a great painter & sculptor. During & after World War II she took part in many humitarian organizations & institutions. Her husband King Alexandar I was assassinated in 1934 in Marseilles & was succeeded by his son Peter II.
