John was the only son of John Wendell and Martha Summers Davis. He grew up in the Brunswick area, went to elementary school there and was baptized in the Brunswick Baptist Church. Later in life he attended Central Church. John was a graduate of Bolton High School, Class of 1958, where he played varsity basketball and baseball. After high school, he began classes to be a licensed electrician and had the highest average of his class. He was a member and past officer of IBEW Local 474. John also achieved a master electrician license and worked for Shelby County Schools. An avid hunter and member of Chaney Lake Hunting Club, it was there he fell from a tree while erecting his deerstand for opening day. John's injuries were severe and he remained hospitalized for months fighting to recover but succumbed to massive infections that overwhelmed him.

John was predeceased by his sister, Janice Davis Nicholson, in 1958 and his dad in 1989. He leaves his wife of 24 years, Karen Hill Davis, their children Jay and Sara, and his daughters Robin, Janie and Rhonda; two sisters, Gloria Wolfe and Carol Elam; and 11 grandchildren.

John was kind, loving and generous to family and friends alike. He left us, and that trophy buck, too soon and is greatly missed.
