Philosopher. He was a brilliant student as a child at the Yoro Kan, a feudal school. He later become a professor at that school. He served as a congressman, and introduced Western education and philosopher to Japan. He also contributed to the development of modern Japanese culture, as an enlightended scholar, by creating philosophical terms, and in other endeavors. His childhood home in Tsuwano is open for public visitation.
