Mrs. Abbott was born May 23, 1908, in Chester to the late Franklin Whitefield and Sophia Kirwan Coleman. She graduated from Stevensville High School in 1926 and attended Strayer Business College.
Mrs. Abbott was a loan officer at Provident Savings in Baltimore for 25 years, and she was assistant resident manager at Pelham Woods. She lived in Silver Spring before recently moving to Peterborough.
She was an active member of the Order Eastern Star, the Daughters of Job Chapter 74 - where she served as Worthy Matron for four terms- the Reformation Lutheran Church in Baltimore and in the Silver Spring Women's Club, where she served as corresponding secretary for several years.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and writing letters. She was the granddaughter of the late Maryland State Senator James E. Kirwan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Abbott, who died in 1972; and one son, William W. Abbott, who died in 1982.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Abbott Wagner of Peterborough; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
