Gene Smith's Rites
LORIS - Funeral services for Gene T. Smith, 34, of Loris, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday from the Glendale Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Otto Edwards. Interment will be in Twin City Memorial Park.
He was born in Red Bank, a son of Jake E. Smith and the late Laura Anthony Smith.
Mr. Smith was an employee of the Caltex Chemical Company of Myrtle Beach.
Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Ouida Cox Smith; a daughter, Lina Ruth Smith; his father and stepmother Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Smith of Lexington; three sisters, Mrs. E.K. (Margaret) Lorick of Irmo, Mrs. Betty Taylor of Lexington and Mrs. Earl (Neat) Dugan of Massachusetts; four brothers, Alvin E. Smith and Clarence W. Smith, both of Columbia, Lawrence H. Smith of Camden, and Paul K. Smith of Lexington; seven half-sister and six half-brothers.
The body is at the Hardwick Funeral Home in Loris.
Mr. Smith was pronounced dead on arrival at the Columbia Hospital early Wednesday morning after the truck he was driving overturned throwing him from the wreckage. He was traveling in his pickup truck toward Columbia on Highway 76.
