Kabuki actor. As a member of a popular kabuki acting family, he is sometimes referred to as "Kikugoro Onoe VI," and was the most famous kabuki actor of the first half of the 20th century. In 1936, he changed the concept of kabuki dance to that of the spirit of the wisteria and refined the production and choreography of the dance. Onoe's efforts helped popularize the dance, and it is the combined visual beauty of the set, actor and choreography that make "The Wisteria Maiden" one of the most favorite dances in Kabuki.
