He attended the Stout Institute in Menomonie, WI where he received a degree in 1942. After serving as an officer in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War, he attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota, completing his degree in 1956. Jim returned to practive veterinary medicine in the Reedsburg area until retiring in 1994.
On June 19, 1954, Jim was united in marriage to Mildred (Gassaway) Shultis in Iowa. This marriage was blessed with four children. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the Reedsburg United Methodist Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Millie; siblings, George "Nick", Roe "Stub", Royce "Buster", Mary Unbehan and Alice Retzlaff.
He is survived by his children, Kenton (Arlyn) of Ballston Spa, NY, Theresa of San Leandro, CA, Russell (Tina) of Bowie, MD and Kara (David) Rowbotham of Walworth, WI; grandchildren, Julia Shultis and Alexandra "Xani" Shultis; and a host of other beloved relatives and dear friends.
