Miriam "Minner" Ertel Pitts

Miriam "Minner" Ertel Pitts, 93, of DeLand, passed away, Sunday, August 15 at Florida Hospital DeLand. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 23 at 11:00 am at Immanuel Presbyterian Church with a committal service to follow at 2:00 pm at Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando.

A beloved mother, Avon salesperson and homemaker, Minner will probably best be remembered for her volunteerism. She gave in excess of 20,000 hours over 20 years in the Auxiliary at West Volusia Memorial Hospital in DeLand. She was instrumental in the building of the Pinkie Resale Shop for the Auxiliary, and also worked tirelessly at the Gillespie Museum of Minerals at Stetson University as a volunteer. Miriam was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in DeLand. She was a shining light and a positive and uplifting spirit to everyone she met. So much so, that she inspired one of her son's friends to rename her business after her," Min and Gin's Closet".

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Douglas S. Pitts, Raleigh, NC; sister, Virginia Bradford; and nephew, Bruce Bradford, both of DeLand; a wonderful neighbor Gerry Padgett, and her family pets, Marvin the dog and Peaches the cat.

She has asked that memorials in her memory be made to the SPCA Of Volusia County, P.O. Box 740763, Orange City, FL 32774-0763 or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 564, DeLand, FL 32721.

Douglas wishes to express his gratitude to the friends, groups and institutions that have known and supported his mother, and suggests that when you get the chance you should read her favorite verse, "Desiderata". A devoted son, he sums up her influence by simply acknowledging that she was his.... Shining Light.

Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand is in charge of arrangements.

My note: Daughter of Harry W. & Emma Ertel
Wife of John C. Pitts
