THE HENRY BULLETIN, Fri., May 31, 1929, p. 6, col. 2:
(edited)
William Simpson Draper died at his home in Rockingham County, N.C., May 24. He had been afflicted for several years with cancer of the stomach. His condition was considered serious about a week before the end.
Mr. Draper was the son of the late John Harrison Draper.
He was born in Henry County, Va. November 1869.
He spent the last 25 years of his life on a tobacco farm near Reidsville, N.C.
His first marriage was to Miss Mary Etta Griffin, who preceded him to the grave in 1914. Of this union there were eight children, six of whom survive with his last wife, who was Miss Beaulah Wheeler.
Although not a member of any church, he was a firm believer in the doctrine of the Primitive Baptist.
Funeral services were conducted at Fair View Church and he was laid to rest in the family burial ground near the church, amid a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
Besides his wife and the following children, Mrs. Jess Murray, Mrs. Thomas Sherron, Daniel, Henry, Jesse and Fletcher Draper, he also leaves to mourn his loss, two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Griffin of Benaja, N.C., and Mrs. E. M. Byrd of Martinsville, and J. H. Draper and two half brothers, Elcaney and Madison Draper, all of Reed Creek.
