Parents: Charles Evans and Julia Ann (Brainard) Thayer. Husband of Clara A. (George) Thayer.

In 1874, Clarence A. Thayer, joined Edwin K. Wood which was the beginning of a partnership which would last until Edwin's death in 1917. They purchased a mill in 1875, and became one of the largest lumber producers in Michigan.

In 1888, Clarence Thayer moved to San Francisco, California and opened a wholesale lumberyard at the foot of Spear Street.

He was the builder of the three-masted Schooner, C.A. Thayer (1895).

Funeral services for Clarence A. Thayer, who passed away yesterday morning at 10:30 at the Hotel Cecil in San Francisco, after an illness of several months, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock at Gray's parlors.

Thayer, who was for many years a resident of San Rafael, had served on the board of trustees of the San Francisco Theological Seminary and on the advisory board of the San Francisco Presbyterian Orphanage and Farm at San Anselmo.
