Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-March, 1889

DIJAH WILCOX

Died Saturday, March 2, 1889, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Josephine Bliss, in Oakdale Neb., Dijah WILCOX, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 2 days. Father WILCOX was born in the state of New York in 1814. In 1837 he was married to Elvina DOW and the same year moved to Michigan where he lived about 12 years, then moved to Iowa, where he lived when the war of the rebellion broke out. Two of his sons served through the war in the union army. In 1878 he moved to Nebraska. He was a shoemaker by trade and was esteemed as a noble, unselfish christian man. Just before he died he said he was ready to go and passed away like one going to sleep. The funeral was conducted from the home by Rev. D. C. WINSHIP of the M. E. Church, and his remains were laid to rest in the Oakdale cemetery.
