Clay Evans (Shay) Beggerly was born in Scooba, Mississippi on May 10, 1922. After graduating from Kemper County High School she entered nurses training at the Jackson Infirmary. She continued her training and graduated from Jefferson Medical College School of Anesthesia. She worked as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for a number of years in Jackson and Pascagoula Mississippi. She married James Raleigh Beggerly on January 5, 1947. She eventually retired from active anesthesia practice to raise her family. She lived with her family in Axis, Alabama for over 50 years. In her latter years she and her husband moved to Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa so family could help care and look after them. Her husband died in 2006 after 59 years of marriage. She died peacefully in hospice care on December 23, 2010. She is survived by two sons, James R. Beggerly, Jr. and Clay Beggerly; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grand-children and 1 honorary grandchild. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
