Mr. Phillips was a Yancey County, North Carolina native and had lived in Baltimore for 40 years before moving to Erwin 25 years ago.
He was the son of the late John and Rosetta Ayers Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was employed with Koppers Enterprise before retiring in 1976 after 30 years of service.
He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Flag Pond Masonic Lodge No. 108 F & AM.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by: two brothers Leonard and Floyd: two sister Zora Ramsey and Clair Lewis.
Survivors include his wife Callie Mae Wilson Phillips *she passed away Dec. 6, 1998*: one sister Pansy P. Edwards
