Civil War Confederate Army Officer. At the beginning of the War between the States he formed Company G of the 31st Alabama Infantry regiment with W.B. Beeson. It became part of General John C. Breckenridge's 1st Kentucky (Orphan) Brigade and served as part of the reserve corps of General Albert Sidney Johnston's Army of the Mississippi at the April 1862 Battle of Shiloh. The 31st was redesignated the 49th Alabama Infantry after Shiloh, and Jeptha Edwards was elected it's Colonel and commander. He then fought at the Battles of Corinth, Baton Rouge, Vicksburg, and Port Hudson, where the 49th Alabama was surrendered. After spending the remainder of the war at Johnson's Island prison on Lake Erie he returned home to Attalla where he became post master and later deputy United States marshal.
