Mrs. Melmore N. Reed, 87, of LaPorte, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Settlers House in LaPorte.

She was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Michigan City, IN, the daughter of Norman and Linda (Rinker) Miller. Melmore was a lifelong resident of the LaPorte area.

Melmore was a homemaker and a sales clerk for J.C. Penney for six years in Michigan City. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and a circle of the church. Melmore enjoyed music, loved rose gardening and especially loved her two poodles, Micky and Buffy.

On Sept. 2, 1949, in Michigan City, she married Maurice Reed, who preceded her in death Sept. 26, 2004.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Norval Miller, and one nephew, Dennis Masek.

She is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Annabelle Miller of Michigan City and Dorothy Masek of Portage, MI; a niece, Lynn (Darin) Ray of Michigan City; three nephews, Steven (Cynthia) Miller of Michigan City, Michael Miller of Michigan City and Ronald (Arlene) Masek of Portage, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Helen Nusbaum officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1101 Lincolnway, LaPorte, IN 46350.
