Lindo Butts, the third of twelve children born to Aaron and Zelinda Gooding Butts, married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Jane Akers on December 22, 1860. He enlisted in the 78th Infantry, Union forces, with other boys from his neighborhood. He mustered into Company F October 1862 just days after the birth of his only child, a son they named Cyrus. He died of a lung infection in Nashville TN while on campaign. Sadly, he is buried under a gravestone with his name misspelled as L.Bretts.
