William Oldham Broaddus was born in Madison county Ky., Nov 13, 1850. Died at his home in Shawnee May 14, 1916. Age 65 years, 6 months and 1 day. He grew to manhood and received his education in his native state. At the age or 28 he left Kentucky and came to Nevada, Mo., where he was engaged in educational work as principal of the high school and county superintendent of the Vernon county for a number of years.
In 1903 he came to Oklahoma and was united in marriage to Anita Ernest, February 18, 1904. Here they made their home until his death. While living in this state he continued in the work that gave him so much pleasure, training young people for lives of usefulness.
Mr Broaddus was a successful teacher who loved his work he was a good father, a devoted husband and a kind neighbor. He was converted and united with the Christian church about thirty years ago and since that time has been an earnest, consistent follower of Christ. At the time of his death he was teacher of the young men's class of the First Christian church.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and three grandchildren: Mrs Lillian Finks and little daughter Dorothy, and Mrs E H Adams and two daughters Adrienne and Sue Frances, both of Ft Smith Ark. Also four brothers and two sisters who reside in distant states.
Mr Broaddus had been a very sick man for six months and death could only be a blessing. The funeral service was conducted by Rev C N Hewitt at the First Christian church at 3 30 Tuesday. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.
