Emma Alice Johnson was born on Sept 16, 1871 to Sampson and Elizabeth Johnson. She married James Wesley Dray on September 10th, 1893 in Gallipolis Ohio when she was 21 years old. Together they had four children. Ruth Dray Queen 1896-1963, John Wesley Dray 1897-1968, Peter Sampson Dray 1899-1932 and Edna Dray Davis 1910-1971. Her husband James passed away in 1929 at the age of 57. They had been married for 36 years.
Growing up Emma never learned to read or write.

Funeral Services At Home And Swan Creek Tuesday A. M.
Mrs. Emma Alice Dray, 74, widow of James Wesley Dray, died 10:45 Sunday morning at her home at 43 Chatham St. She had been ill for more than six months and death was due to cancer of the liver.
Mrs. Dray was a native of Ohio Twp. and was a daughter of Samuel Harden Johnson and Elizabeth White Johnson. Her birthdate was Sept. 16, 1871. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in her native township.
Mr. Dray died Nov. 25, 1929. They are survived by these three children John Dray, 1801 Chatham Ave.; Mrs. Ruth Queen, S. Charleston, O., and Mrs. Edna Davis, Lima. Mrs. Dray is survived also by three brothers and a sister, all of Gallipolis; Edward, Fon and Frank Johnson and Mrs. Gricie Springer.
There will be a brief service at 9:30 Tuesday at their home. The main rites will be held at Swan Creek an hour later, with Rev. Earl Cremeens in charge. Burial in Swan Creek Cemetery by Claude Miller. Pall bearers selected are James Dray, John W. Dray, Homer Johnson, Grant Johnson, Clarence Springer and Charles Johnson.
