Thomas Grierson was born on 11 Dec 1809 in Urr, Kirkcudbright, Scotland. He was the son of Alexander Grierson (1781-1856) and Agnes Edgar Grierson (1784-1850). He worked as a miller. Thomas married Agnes McQueen on 10 Apr 1830 in Balmaclellan, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. They had 10 children. Agnes died in Scotland on 07 Apr 1849. Thomas Grierson immigrated to Cattaraugus County, New York in 1858. He lived there with his children, John and Janet, and worked as a miller. He died on 11 Jan 1866 in Portville, New York. Thomas' son, John, served in the Civil War as 2nd Lt. Co.D, 85th Regt. and also served in the 14th Artillery. He was a P.O.W. for 7 months.
